Responsibilities
● Implement and oversee Cambridge programme standards and practices.
● Ensure collaborative planning, interdisciplinary teaching, and academic integrity.
● Support professional development for staff focused on inquiry-based learning and international-mindedness.
● Supervise all staff in the department including monitoring attendance, performance, disciplinary issues and leave
● Attend to all parent, student and staff concerns
● Ensuring classroom displays are updated and of international standard
● Manage all departmental inventory
● Ensure all the policies are implemented and in action especially policies like, Behaviour, Child Protection, Code of Conduct, HR etc
● Ensure official communication to parents about student behaviour, attendance and any other related matter is done in a professional, timely and proactive manner
● Assigning duties and making rosters for teaching staff
● Conduct routine classroom observations with regard to teacher-student, teacher-teacher, teacher-parent behaviours
● Work with CC to prepare Budget, procure and manage the resources for department
● Coordinate the induction of new staff into the department
● Work with CC in appraising all teachers
● Ensure (and proofread) portfolios published for all students (EC only)
● Work with management to plan, prepare annual and internal calendars and communicate to the students and teachers
● Plan and organise field trips that includes necessary risk assessment, budgets and the trip
● Ensure with CC that all the processes, documentation and resources are maintained and in place for Cambridge self-evaluation and as required
● Ensure CCs monitor, evaluate and prepare all stakeholders for the Cambridge evaluation and any other accreditation if required
● Be proactive in updating any new changes to the Cambridge curriculum, standards and practices from CC and ensure with CC that the school meets the requirements for the implementation of curricula and programmes
● Plan, inform and take all necessary actions related to student behaviour concerns
● Work with CC in preparation and quality control of all department events and assemblies/unit in action
● Plan and implement required changes towards the enrichment of the programmes offered in line with Cambridge requirements for inclusion and learner support
● Supervise the school counsellor and ensure the wellbeing of all students and staff
● Ensure 90% attendance and retention policy is implemented with termly emails and reminders to parents (EC, Primary and Secondary)
● Work with CC to create, proofread examination/ assessment papers, reports, portfolios manuals, newsletters etc. (Primary and Secondary)
● Print and distribute examination papers with utmost confidentiality and standards (Primary and Secondary)
● With CC, ensure at least 90% pass rate for candidates.
● Plan for the Internship programme in Secondary along with CC
● Ensure with CC the implementation of Cambridge IGCSE & A Levels related submissions are made in a timely manner that are of the highest standard. (secondary only)
● Ensure from CC that official communication to parents about academic progress (via teachers) is made in a timely and proactive manner. Timely communication to parents about their child’s academic progress (including mocs wherever applicable) should be planned and implemented between CC and teachers even before final reports are issued
● Ensure from CC that results of candidate students are being analysed and timely interventions to be provided with communication to parents.
● Analyse with CC any discrepancies between predicted and actual results. Anything +2 or -2 should be analysed in detail (Secondary only)
● Ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process based on merit
Academic Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Education or equivalent Teaching Qualification
- Masters Degree in Education or a related field is an added advantage
- 5 years’ experience with at least 2 years’ experience in teaching in a Cambridge curriculum school and at least 2 years experience in a leadership position
