School Counsellor

Lubowa, Uganda

The school counsellor will provide individual and group and classroom-based counselling services to students, as well as support teachers and parents with mental health and behavioral issues of the children

 Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual and group counselling sessions with students to address personal, social, emotional, and academic issues
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to support student learning and development
  • Administer and interpret assessments to evaluate student behavior and mental health
  • Develop and implement prevention and intervention programs to address mental health issues, bullying, substance abuse, and other behavioral concerns
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and reports
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
  • Teach well-being, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) lessons and any other lessons as may be assigned
  • Attend and conduct professional development and training opportunities to enhance counselling skills and knowledge


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related field
  • Masters Degree in Counselling or Psychology is an added advantage
  • Certification as a School Counsellor or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a School Counsellor or a related field
  • Experience in individual and group counselling with children and adolescents
  • Experience working with children, preferably including children with special needs.
  • Knowledge of mental health and behavioral issues affecting youth
